In 1918 at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month the Great War ended. It wasn’t considered WWI, it never occurred to anyone that the Great War could ever be surpassed in scale of devastation. November 11th, 1919 became Armistice Day in the United States to remember the sacrifices made during the Great War. Armistice Day became a Federal Holiday in 1938, just 3 years prior to the US entry to WWII.
